Where WEI started

Financial knowledge should not depend on the household or zip code you were born into.

The Wealth Equity Initiative did not start as a website. It started in classrooms, in a handful of schools where no one had walked students through how a bank account, a paycheck, or interest actually works. This page is an honest look at that ground-level reach, the part of the work you cannot see from a homepage.

These are the figures we stand behind today, the current footprint of the work. They describe where WEI has reached so far, with more schools and more regions ahead.

A representative sample

Twelve schools we can name.

These are twelve of the schools WEI has taught in, the ones we can name with confidence. They are a representative sample of a wider footprint, not the whole of it. Most sit along the coast of northeast Andhra Pradesh, a few inland in Telangana, and one at the southern tip of the country.

The twelve schools

India is where WEI began. The mission is not bound to one map: it is that financial knowledge should not depend on the household or zip code a student was born into, wherever that student lives.

Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh
2 schools
Khammam, Telangana

Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu

The outline and state borders are drawn from real India geometry. Pin positions are approximate, placed by region rather than as exact addresses.

What the reach means

Every figure here is a room full of students who now have a place to start.

The twelve schools on the map are the part we can name. Behind them sits a wider body of work, and two figures we are willing to stand behind. We do not inflate them, and we do not claim more than we have done.

Reaching a student early changes the questions they are able to ask later: before a first paycheck, a first account, a first loan. That is the whole point of starting in the classroom rather than waiting for someone to go looking for help.

Extend the map

Bring WEI to a school we have not reached yet.

If you teach, run a program, or know a school that could use free, plain-language financial education, the next pin on this map could be yours. Tell us where, and we will take it from there.
